Leech therapy
The course of the therapy
For the therapy we choose a clean, warm and quiet space where each person can relax and take time for themselves without any rush. It is important that neither the therapist nor the visitor is under time pressure, as a calm and relaxed environment contributes to a more pleasant therapy experience.
For people encountering leeches for the first time, it is entirely normal to feel some uncertainty or apprehension. That is why, before we begin, we always take time for a conversation, explanations and relaxation. Experience shows that after a few minutes most people settle down and find the therapy considerably easier than they had expected.
The success of applying a leech can depend on various factors. Its responsiveness may be influenced by the weather, the condition of the skin, the use of certain medicines, smoking, heavily spiced food and the presence of various scents on the skin. For this reason we recommend that, on the day of the therapy, you do not apply creams, perfumes, essential oils or other cosmetic products to the intended application sites. Likewise, it is not advisable to wash the skin with stronger soaps or scented products immediately before the therapy.
Before the therapy begins, we prepare all the necessary equipment and ensure the medicinal leeches are properly prepared.
Once the person is comfortably settled, the therapist places the leech on the chosen spot. Various aids may be used for this, such as adapted syringes, test tubes or small glass containers, although the placement is often carried out directly by hand. If needed, the surrounding area is protected so that the leech can attach only at the desired spot.

If the leech does not attach straight away, the therapist uses various proven methods to encourage local blood circulation and prepare the skin. Among the most common are gently warming the skin, warm compresses or other techniques that improve the conditions for successfully placing the leech.
Since every therapy is tailored to the individual, the course and duration of the individual steps may vary somewhat.
