Krashenyuk Albert Ivanovich
Professor Dr A. I. Krashenyuk is a Doctor of Medical Sciences and a Doctor of Biochemistry and Virology within the Oxford study network. His professional work focuses on hirudotherapy, the study of medicinal leeches and the development of a systemic approach to hirudotherapy.
He is a member of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, an Honoured Scientist of Europe and the recipient of several professional distinctions. Among others, he was awarded the title of Best Scientist in the World 2015 within the Oxford study network, as well as the order Srce Danko, conferred by public organisations of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. He also holds the title of Grand Doctor of Philosophy, Biology and Medicine.
In Saint Petersburg he is head of the department of hirudotherapy, general director of the Academy of Hirudotherapy, president of the association of hirudologists and head of the scientific and coordinating council of hirudologists of Russia and the post-Soviet states. He also serves as a full professor at the Oxford University in Saint Petersburg.

Together with his wife, Svetlana Vladimirovna Krashenyuk, he is the founder of the systemic approach to hirudotherapy, which combines elements of Eastern traditions and homeopathy. Their work is directed towards developing methods, training specialists and disseminating knowledge about the responsible and systematic use of medicinal leeches.
On 12 February 1996, together with his wife, Professor Krashenyuk founded the first department of hirudotherapy in Russia, within the Academy of Medical and Social Management in Saint Petersburg. The department brought together researchers and specialists from various fields and, over more than two decades, trained and introduced more than 1,000 doctors to the systemic approach to hirudotherapy, among them general practitioners, paediatricians, surgeons, neurologists and other specialists.
